BORING!!!

I decided this "Plain Jane" needed just a little make up. By that I mean some very cool stylized painting. I wish I could say I simply stenciled this. So please feel my pain when I tell you I hand painted it. It was actually kinda relaxing though watching tv, something I never do, and painting away.  Took quite a while though (2 hours but who's counting?) and gave the same result of stenciling....ugh! Here it is before...

The color is truer in the first pic.

    Harlequin Table/Perfect Lap Top Desk

No before pics simply because I found this BBD (before blogging days). Nice excuse, but it is the truth. Anyway, a long time ago I sprayed this garage sale find Krylon's Cornflower Blue. It sat because I jump around the creative/crafting map more times than I get stuck driving my kids to school because they can't get it together in the morning.

Here it is minus the top. I distressed this like a crazy woman!

I drew out the design on the top. BIG PAIN! You have to look really close. Pull out those readers if necessary.
Taped it off, more pain, so a glass of wine was in order. My advice...map it out before hitting the bottle.
Mixed charcoal craft paint with glaze because I wanted a more sheer, subtle look plus the glaze acts like glue and won't run under the tape like straight paint would.
    Looking good!!!! More wine please!
And the "cheap mom" always reuses her tape.
And here it is all finished...

This would make a great lap top desk. I'm going to paint a chair to match, stay tuned!

    Cottage Style TV Table

Found this at the flea market and thought it had great lines and would be perfect in a small room to hold the tv. I so wanted to paint it with color but decided to go with a creamy white.
Here it is primed. Forgot the before pic...oops!

Here it as after I painted and distressed it.

I used graphite paper to trace this design.
Painted the design blue and added some extra comma strokes to the original design. Should not have distressed so heavily in the design area but the damage was already done :(

    Damask Bread Box

I find these all the time at the flea market so when I stumbled on this post I knew eventually I would be a copy cat. I know it doesn't say much for my imagination but imitation is the best form of flattery. So, yay you Classic Campbell and shame on me for not being more creative.

One boring bread box primed but probably not necessary.
All papered up, sprayed semi gloss black and trying out the new knob pre spray paint. Used spray adhesive instead of mod podge. I am loving this stuff!!

But then there are issues. The paper wasn't wide enough so I had to cut a piece and match it up like wallpapering. Easy right? WRONG, the seam was so obvious! Then I brainstormed ways to hide it and came up with this. In the end, it turned out to be a happy accident. Well maybe not an accident but you know what I mean.

Notice that perfect ribbon on top waiting to hide the obvious seam. Had to take a Michael's run for this but it was so worth it.
I used the spray adhesive to add the ribbon too. First went with the glue gun but it was all lumpy.

It looks like a perfectly wrapped present just waiting to be opened unfortunately the gift inside is nothing more than a loaf of bread. I'm going to put this on my web site www.uniquelychicmosaics.com

    Easy Stencil

My coffee table has seen better days so I pulled it out to the garage and gave it a coat of heirloom white and dressed it up a bit with a simple stencil design all the while handing out treats to the costumed kids. My neighborhood is crazy, 6 bags of candy in 2 hours! I love to hand paint but when you want to give something a little extra with minimal work and time involved stenciling is sometimes the way to go.

An hour of painting in the garage passing out candy.

And an hour while watching the World Series to stencil.

There really are touches of green in the scrap book paper, I swear I am capable of matching.
Instead of using mod podge, I used spray adhesive to secure the paper and then podged over the paper. Not a one bubble. I saw this in blog land but I visit so many of you I forgot who this awesome idea came from. She used fabric on her redo. If you know who she is please drop me an email so I  can give credit where credit is due :) OK update, I found her the "adhesive girl" ....Kim @ Second Time Furniture. Thanks Kim!

    Garbage Pickins' at the Neighbors

Grabbed this from my next door neighbors trash...how convenient for me?? I have to admit though when I moseyed on over and grabbed it, I was praying no one would see me hauling it back to my garage. My name is Sue and I am garbage stalker!

I primed it and painted it with the left over paint from this side table because I loved the color and there was just enough left to do this piece.

Then distressed and glazed it. Thanks neighbor George!!

    My Sister's Mailbox

Every year my financially savvy sister does my tax return for me and in exchange I paint something for her. I have been a bit of a slacker...6 months later but who's counting?

I went to HD and picked up your standard mailbox and painted this for her, my sister, who is amazing at lowering your tax liability the legal way. That is her motto. She is in the Dallas area and does taxes for a very reasonable price given her knowledge. Contact me for her email addy if you would like to speak with her. New clients are always welcome and in this tough economy who wouldn't embrace a tax consultant who will bring you your highest return possible.
